Colombo Liaison Office Liaison Office in Sri Lanka

The Colombo Liaison Office

Tozai Boeki opened its liaison office in Colombo in July 1968 with the permission of the Sri Lankan government, which was still a socialist regime at the time. The company has been doing business in the country for over 50 years.

While the initial business was only exporting fertilizers (ammonium sulfate) in small volumes, the scope of trade was later expanded to include agricultural machinery, chemicals, and various other products for agricultural use, considering that Sri Lanka would continue to be a robust agricultural country mainly producing rice, black tea, etc.

As rubber has become one of Sri Lanka’s main industries, the company is currently selling various synthetic rubbers and related products in increasing volumes in the country, which are exported from Japan directly as well as through triangular trade.

Staffed by highly experienced local professionals, the Colombo Liaison Office conducts market research, business partner exploration, and other support services.

Message from the Colombo Liaison Office

Dubbed “the pearl of the Indian Ocean,” Sri Lanka is an island country surrounded by the ocean, widely known for precious gemstones such as blue sapphire, star sapphire, cat’s eyes, star ruby, etc.

Aside from the many beaches along its coast, Sri Lanka has different scenic areas in its central region, featuring many mountains, impressive waterfalls, stunning lakes, and lush green rice paddies. The country’s hilly region has many tea plantations where world-renowned Ceylon tea is produced and sold. Besides agriculture, Sri Lanka has a fast-growing IT industry that has become one of the leading business sectors.

Renowned for their hospitality and modesty, the people of Sri Lanka are multicultural, consisting of 73% Sinhalese and 17% Tamils, with the rest being Muslims and other religious ethnicities (Dutch, Malay, etc.).

Sri Lanka has developed over the years thanks to its improving social infrastructure of expressways, ports, airports, rail transport, etc. Colombo is the country’s largest city and is considered one of Asia’s most attractive, where five-star brand hotels and restaurants are constantly opening.

In addition to being a safe and convenient business hub with many global companies, Sri Lanka is also becoming a more effective route to India and Africa for future business activities. As one of the oldest Japanese-affiliated trading companies in Sri Lanka, we are constantly striving to maximize our contribution to trade between the two countries, by fully leveraging our professional relationships and experience cultivated over the past several decades.
