History
Tozai Boeki’s track record

Since its founding in 1958, Tozai Boeki has engaged mainly in international trade for over 65 years. With export sales accounting for roughly 75% of its total sales, the company has been doing business mainly with partners based in Southeast Asian countries but also in the U.S., Europe, Oceania, etc. Today, the company’s most active trading partners are based in China and Sri Lanka. Tozai Boeki has a long history of trade with China, starting out as a diplomatic trading company approved by the Chinese government, pioneering the trade between the two countries in the post-war period. The company later opened its Beijing office in 1982 and its Shanghai liaison office in 1986, the latter of which was subsequently incorporated as a local subsidiary in 1996. Today, Tozai Boeki operates in six locations across China—Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Nantong—where around 40 employees work. In Sri Lanka, since opening its liaison office in 1968, the company has consistently been engaging in ODA projects (support for increasing food production, called “2KR”).

Tozai Boeki’s product range used to consist mainly of fertilizers and chemical products but later expanded to include cultivators, agricultural chemicals and materials, pharmaceuticals, electronic components and materials, measuring instruments, housing materials, etc. By transaction volume, sales have increased for electronic components and materials exported to China, agricultural machinery and chemicals sold in Sri Lanka, and machinery and equipment marketed across China and Southeast Asia. Regarding its domestic business, Tozai Boeki has been dealing for many years with major companies that are listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Prime Market, thus enabling the company to export the high-quality products of Japan’s top manufacturers to countries around the world. Regarding recent international developments, Tozai Boeki established its Thai subsidiary in Bangkok in 2009 and also set up a joint venture company in Sri Lanka in 2016. All its overseas locations in China, Sri Lanka, and Thailand closely cooperate with the company’s Japan-based operations, aiming to expand Tozai Boeki’s business globally while optimizing its business locally.
